With the ongoing drought conditions and the need to conserve our precious water resources, Azle, TX, is implementing new water restrictions for 2024. These measures are essential to ensure that we have enough water for essential uses and to preserve our local ecosystems.
Key Restrictions
Outdoor Watering
Allowed Days:
Odd-numbered addresses: Wednesday and Saturday
Even-numbered addresses: Thursday and Sunday
Times:
Allowed only before 10 AM and after 6 PM to reduce evaporation.
Watering Methods
Hand-held hoses with shut-off nozzles, buckets, or watering cans are permitted at any time.
Sprinkler systems and irrigation are subject to the above restrictions.
Prohibited Activities
Washing driveways, sidewalks, and other hard surfaces unless for safety or sanitation purposes.
Using water fountains or decorative water features that do not recirculate water.
Hosing down buildings or other structures unless for fire protection.
Exceptions
Newly planted landscapes and lawns may be watered as needed for the first 30 days, provided it is done during allowed times.
Drip irrigation systems and soaker hoses are exempt from day-of-week restrictions but must still comply with time restrictions.
Enforcement and Penalties
To ensure compliance, the City of Azle will be conducting regular inspections and monitoring water usage. Violation of these restrictions may result in:
First offense: Warning notice
Second offense: $50 fine
Subsequent offenses: $200 fine per incident
Tips for Water Conservation
Check for leaks regularly in your plumbing and irrigation systems.
Use mulch around plants to retain moisture and reduce evaporation.
Install water-efficient fixtures such as low-flow showerheads and toilets.
Collect rainwater with barrels to use for outdoor watering.
Choose native plants that require less water and are more drought-resistant.
